Yes, it’s that time of year again where we at Act On Info start talking about the important topic of anti-bullying. We first started in 1999 working on anti-bullying workshops with the Manchester Healthy Schools team and although our company has grown to cover other aspects of the national curriculum anti-bullying has and always will be one of the most important subjects that we tackle with young people and due to the profound effect we have seen bullying have on people throughout the years it is the topic that we feel most strongly about.
This years anti-bullying week runs from 17th to 21st November and the theme is “Lets Stop Bullying for All” with emphasis on raising the issue of the disproportionate amount of children and young people who have special educational needs and / or disabilities (SEND) that are bullied in schools. With this in mind we have created our new workshop Alien Nation about a new pupil at your school who has just moved here from Mars. This drama workshop uses forum theatre techniques to explore with your pupils why some young people are bullied because they look different or have different abilities to themselves and encourages pupils to foster inclusive attitudes.
We also have our Happy, Safe and Confident forum theatre workshop through which we help to raise awareness of bullying and its effects, by exploring why bullying happens, who it affects, how it makes us feel and how we can deal with it. As well we have our anti-bullying Play in a Day in which a class of your pupils create a play with a strong anti – bullying message and deliver the play to the rest of the school at the end of the day.
We all human beings, we all have human rights and no-one deserves to be bullied. Please get in touch if we can help your school tackle bullying with an anti-bullying drama workshop this anti-bullying week.
